With LTE networks rapidly being deployed across the world, it appears UNE has taken advantage of Huawei’s fast growing expertise and equipment in the space. The China-based vendor will implement its SingleRAN LTE solution in the company’s packet core network.
"We are pleased to partner with Huawei for the deployment of Colombia's first commercial LTE network for the first stage" said Juan Ignacio Palacio, VP international business at UNE. "UNE is committed to providing its customers the best and fastest possible mobile broadband internet experience. We believe that Huawei's cutting-edge SingleRAN LTE solution will enable us to rapidly achieve our objective of building one of the largest and best next-generation mobile networks in Colombia."
For the first stage of the project, UNE will deploy the network in the cities of Bogota and Medellin and will gear its entire core network with Huawei equipment.
The Colombian telecoms market has been making telecoms headlines recently. BT recently launched a data centre in Bogota and Azteca have announced plans to build a fibre-optic network in the country.
