Its report, Global fixed voice and broadband market outlook: 2011-16, forecasts that consumer fixed voice revenues will fall from $176 billion in 2011 to $158.6 billion in 2012.
Meanwhile, consumer fixed broadband revenues are expected to grown from $167 billion to $180.5 billion during the same period.
The growth is driven by increased video traffic, more applications and content in the cloud and more connected devices, as well as internet-based voice services such as Skype.
Ovum analyst Charlie Davis commented: “Our research reveals the extent to which the fixed voice telecoms market is shrinking and just how important broadband has become to the industry.”
