The contract will provide FASTtelco with connectivity on routes within the Gulf and onward to Europe and India and is reportedly one of a number of advanced sales secured by GBI.
“We are happy to see that GBI is taking the lead on meeting the growing demand for capacity in Kuwait and the region, a commitment that FASTtelco is also undertaking,” said FASTtelco CEO, Abdul-Wahab Al-Naqeeb.
The GBI cable system is scheduled to launch at the end of 2011. The 13,000km subsea cable system will link Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Oman with Iran and Iraq, and onward to Europe and India. A possible expansion to Singapore is being considered for 2012.
