Telecoms carrier capex to rise to $310.8 billion in 2011

A report from Infonetics Research predicts that telecoms carrier capex will increase by 5.8% in 2011 compared to 2010.

The rise is expected to lead to a total investment by the world’s telecoms carriers of $310.8 billion this year. The analyst firm concludes that WiMAX equipment is accounting for the fastest growth among telcos in terms of net spend, up by 27.5%, followed by spending on video infrastructure, up by 20.7%.

The research group has identified two of the largest areas of investment. The first is non-telecoms/datacom equipment, which includes software, real estate and labour.

This area of expenditure is expected to experience a global spending growth of 7%. The second area is mobile infrastructure, which is expected to experience a global spending growth of 8.6%.

Meanwhile, telecoms carrier revenue is forecast to grow to $2.17 trillion in 2015, an increase substantially driven by mobile broadband.
