Cloud computing energy savings in UK

Research from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has shown that large UK companies could achieve annual energy savings of £1.2 billion and annual carbon reductions by using cloud computing services.

This reduction would be equivalent to the annual emissions of four million passenger vehicles.

The CDP research found that large companies in the UK planned to accelerate their adoption of cloud computing from 10% to almost 70% of their information technology spend by 2020.

A company that adopts cloud computing can reduce its energy consumption, lower its carbon emissions and decrease its capital expenditure on IT resources while also improving its operational efficiency.

In addition, the CDP found that UK companies can reduce the CO2 emissions associated with their IT infrastructure by 50% compared to predicted levels, even without the adoption of cloud.
