There was growth in all market segments including general purpose, purpose-built and blade data centre Ethernet switches, application delivery controls and WAN optimisation appliances. The network equipment market also grew 12% year on year. The strongest regional performance was in North America, with growth of 16%. Asia’s growth slowed, but is up 39% year on year. The purpose-built data centre Ethernet switching market had enormous gains of 800%.
“The resurgence in data centre upgrades, virtualisation, and traffic growth bodes well for the data centre market. We expect the 2011 market to be up about 6% on 2010, with double-digit growth in 2012,” said Sam Barnett, directing analyst for data centres at Infonetics Research.
