CST’s 3G network will offer speeds of up to 14Mbps, with access to mobile broadband services and mobile data as well as video calling.
By the end of 2012 CST aims to provide 3G coverage to 90% of São Tomé and Príncipe’s population.
Before the launch, CST engaged in a five-week trial period to monitor customer experience and improve network quality.
The company believes that mobile broadband and mobile internet will be massively adopted in São Tomé and Príncipe when the ACE submarine cable, connecting the west coast of Africa to Europe, goes live later this year.
CST is 51% owned by Portugal Telecom and 49% owned by the state. Its customer base stands at 124,000 with mobile coverage extending to 70% of the population
