Schneider said that security offerings were being pursued by operators for both revenue gains and as a service differentiator.
“For the operator the advantage is obvious, it is an additional revenue source for them and on the other side it is also a differentiator which will help to increase customer loyalty”.
With smartphone malware on the rise by up to 3000% a year, there has been increasing demand from high-end and enterprise users for mobile security services.
Schneider believes that operators are in a unique position to offer end-to-end security solutions to users, as they are the only group able to provide security at both a device and a network level.
This gives operators a distinct advantage over OTT players, which have taken revenue away from operators in other areas, such as social messaging.
Operators are already interworking to include security services in their roaming agreements, according to Schneider, with some having expressed concerns that they were receiving malicious traffic from their partners' networks.
