Under the terms of the agreement, Chinese vendor Huawei will be responsible for building and managing Telefónica UK’s core transmission, mobile access and network construction.
The partnership is the first between both companies in the managed services space, and will see 56 Telefónica workers transfer to Huawei to plan and build the core network, in addition to 62 contractors.
“We are very pleased to announce our first major managed services agreement with Telefónica UK,” said Victor Zhang, CEO at Huawei UK. “Having collaborated with Telefónica in a number of markets around the world, this agreement, which focusses on building world-class managed services capabilities in the UK, is no doubt an important step in extending our relationship with Telefónica UK.”
Zhang welcomed Huawei’s new employees as a result of the partnership, stating their experience in the domestic market will be invaluable for the company’s “long-term plans for “investment in the UK”.
Huawei adds Telefónica UK to its 240 collaborations with operators in over 60 countries in the managed services space.
