NTT will deploy Alcatel’s 7,750 service routers as it looks to boost the speed and capacity of its IP network and address increasing demand for mobile broadband services in the country. Alcatel says that its routers also help secure transport LTE data.
“Demand for mobile broadband services in Japan is growing exponentially, posing a serious challenge to operators. Our IP service routing technology provides an unrivaled solution for NTT DoCoMo to expand both capacity and performance of their network while keeping space and power consumption at the lowest level and offering a variety of easy options to upgrade the network as needed to address shifting demand,” said Martin Jordy, president and MD at Alcatel-Lucent Japan.
Alcatel gained the contract for the deployment through collaboration with Fujitsu, which has a long standing relationship with NTT DoCoMo, and proposed the 7750 SR as the best platform to address the company’s requirements.
NTT DoCoMo has also reportedly agreed to allow Amazon to sell prepaid SIMs for services using its networks. The agreement is, according to the Japanese press, part of the online retailers preparation for the launch of its Kindle products in the country.
