Rumours had persisted throughout the day that Humm was set to join Vodafone, after Deutsche Telekom chief executive René Obermann confirmed he was leaving to join a European company.
Humm will assume his role effective October 2012 and stated he “looks forward to joining the team.” He added: “Vodafone is a powerful brand with a strong focus on the customer coupled with a clear strategy for growth.”
Humm joins Vodafone as chief executive of Northern & Central Europe, a new operating region for the company. Northern & Central Europe will comprise of: Germany, the UK, Netherlands, Turkey, Ireland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Romania.
Vodafone has also announced it will run an operation in Southern Europe, and has appointed Paolo Bertoluzzo as chief executive, who will also continue his role as chief executive of Vodafone Italy. The Southern European operation will serve Spain, Italy, Greece, Malta, Albania and Portugal. He is set to assume his new role in August this year.
Both Humm and Bertoluzzo will also join the Vodafone Group Executive Committee.
“Our new regional structure will underpin our strategy focussed on meeting our customers’ long-term needs,” added Vodafone Group chief executive Vittorio Colao.
