For the first phase of the project, ZTE will build more than 2,000 base stations. The vendor will provide its software-defined radio (SDR) based Uni-RAN solution for the deployment as well as operation management services.
Viettel, which is owned by Vietnam’s Ministry of Defence, won Peru’s fourth mobile licence in January 2011 and plans to invest $400 million in the country over the next 10 years.
"In 2009, ZTE became Viettel’s first 3G networking equipment supplier in Vietnam,” said Pu Yingchun, ZTE GSM/UMTS product lines general manager. “We are excited to help Viettel enter the South American market for the first time and we are confident that this new contract will help it grow further in the region.”
