The Financial Times reports that the group is in the final stages of technology testing for its North American network and will set up its own data centres in the region to manage voice and data calls.
Lycamobile, which provides international calls without roaming charges, will focus its offering on key markets, including; California, New York and New Jersey.
Subaskaran Allirajah, chairman of Lycamobile, told the publication that the company would be the first full MVNO in the US. He also said that the launch will make services available to an additional 300 million people, from the 500 million already able to access services in Europe and Australia.
Group CEO, Milind Kangle, said that Lyca believed its main competitors to be free messaging services like Skype rather than other mobile networks targeting a similar demographic.
Kangle also revealed that the group had the financial capacity to continue to open networks globally, and expand its Lyca Money and Lyca Travel businesses.
