The upgrade was carried out using Ciena’s coherent 40G technology and is designed to meet growing demand for services, including content monetisation, video broadcasting and distributed storage area networking.
Ciena’s 40Gbps wavelengths were deployed across FNAL’s subsea segments and between its Tapei and Seoul PoPs, offering matching terrestrial backhaul capacity and performance.
Through the upgrade Reliance has created a unified platform for the transmission of both voice and packet-based applications, using SDH and Ethernet-based solutions, and will be able to offer bandwidth speeds ranging from 1Gbps to 40Gbps.
“Asia is currently among the leading regions where the internet and broadband penetration rates are high but there is still significant potential for bandwidth growth. Reliance Globalcom is committed to meet this growth by upgrading its network consistently in a cost-effective manner with the latest transmission technologies like OTN,” said Punit Garg, president and CEO at Reliance Globalcom.
