EE extends 4G network reach in UK

UK operator Everything Everywhere (EE) has said it will roll out 4G to 17 new towns and cities in the UK by March of next year.

The accelerated roll-out of its 4G network comes ahead of the UK 4G spectrum auction, which is also due to be held in March of next year.

If EE is successful, its total UK coverage could span across 35 cities before rival UK operators have even secured frequencies.

EE, which began as a joint venture between France Telecom’s Orange and Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile under the Everything Everywhere brand, controversially received approval in August to use existing airwaves to provide 4G services ahead of its rivals.

With this latest announcement, EE appears intent on capatilising on its head start in the UK market.

“We are improving the network every day, delivering superfast mobile to more and more people right across metropolitan areas, whether they’re using their devices outdoors or in their homes and offices,” commented Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE.

“This has struck a chord with businesses in particular, with great demand being seen. We’re delighted to already be powering large, medium and small businesses with 4G.”

The UK locations due to receive EE’s 4G network by March include Bradford, Chelmsford, Coventry, Doncaster, Dudley, Leicester, Luton, Newport, Reading, Rotherham, St Albans, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Watford, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton.
