Ciena’s 6500 Packet Optical Platform is being used for the deployment, which is designed to deliver additional bandwidth and flexibility to carriers and enterprises in the US and Europe.
The vendor’s GeoMesh solution, designed to remove traditional networks seams that inefficiently link submarine and terrestrial networks, is also being deployed on the route.
“The move to 100Gbps coherent technology on our TGN-Atlantic cable system demonstrates our leadership in global network infrastructure,” said Genius Wong, SVP of global network services at Tata Communications.
“Based on Ciena’s GeoMesh, this major deployment will bring maximum bandwidth, lower latencies, higher uptimes and seamless scalability for carriers and enterprises, today and in the future.”
The deployment will allow for further bandwidth upgrades leading to a significant increase in bandwidth available across the Tata Global Network.
Tata’s Global Network consists of 210,000km of terrestrial and subsea fibre, and makes up 20% of the world’s internet routes, carrying 4,200 petabits of traffic a month
The upgrade is Tata’s first 100Gbps deployment on its global network and is expected to be in full service during the first half of 2013.
