An email statement issued exclusively to Capacity by the UK-based equipment vendor claimed it is “still in close discussion with Hibernia about the transatlantic project”.
Hibernia confirmed to Capacity it had halted all work on the project until Q4 2014 at the earliest.
Capacity reported on Monday that the Hibernian Express transatlantic cable is the latest project to become embroiled within the continuing cyber security row between the US and China.
Key carriers had warned connecting to the cable would mean they would lose lucrative contracts with US federal government agencies.
Hibernia has contracted Huawei Marine to manufacture the cable, despite the US House Intelligence Committee branding Huawei a national security threat last October. The committee also recommended that US network operators should seek alternative equipment suppliers to Huawei.
Huawei further hit back today stating it is still “serving 45 out of the top 50 telecoms operators and has a proven track record of proving reliable equipment across the world”.
