Tata Communications has entered a voice solutions agreement with UPC Wholesale, the B2B unit of Liberty Global.Under the deal Tata will provide access to its IP voice switching platform and support systems. Tata said this will enable UPC to integrate its different voice networks into a single next-generation platform, providing cost savings and improving call quality. [read more] >> 



 

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has announced that its first private international submarine cable system, Cahaya Malaysia, has officially landed at Tseung Kwan O, in Hong Kong, completing its intended route.Cahaya Malaysia is designed to offer low latency connections from Malaysia to Japan and Hong Kong and has been carrying internet traffic between Japan and Malaysia since August 2012. Telecom New Zealand, Vodafone and Telstra have signed a non-binding MoU to co-invest in a submarine cable between Auckland, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia. The cable named Tasman Global Access (TGA) is designed to significantly improve New Zealand’s international telecoms connectivity and to strengthen the country’s links with Asian markets. Sea Fibre Networks, owner of CeltixConnect, has announced the expansion if its C-Fibre portfolio from its Dublin to Frankfurt route via London. The carrier neutral fibre provider will now offer end-to-end fibre solutions from the two cities, which now reportedly supplies 35% of European internet traffic. [read more] >>



 

Telefónica Vivo has partnerd with Ciena for what is claimed to be the first active 100Gbps network deployment in Brazil. The network, which connects 100GbE channels to the DWDM system for outbound international traffic, includes multiple 100Gbps routes between the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Praia Grande. KPN’s German unit E-Plus has selected Chinese vendor ZTE to play a more substantial role in its forthcoming LTE network expansion. E-Plus had previously been working with ZTE for the expansion of its UMTS network, modernisation of its core network and for LTE field trials. [read more] >>



 

Russia’s MegaFon has reportedly completed repairs on its cellular towers damaged by a meteor shower near the city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals region last week. MegaFon spokeswoman Yulia Dorokhina told Prime-Tass business news agency that communications had been fully restored after around 15% of the carrier’s base stations in the area were damaged. [read more] >>



 

Russia’s Central Science and Research Telecommunications Institute (FSUE ZNIIS) and Infinera have completed an ultra-long haul lab trial. Infinera said the network configuration provided flexible service add/drop and non-blocking OTN-switching, enabling traffic demand including 100 Gigabit Ethernet services 40Gb/E, 10Gb/E and 10Gb SDH services. [read more] >>



 

Telstra has announced a network strategy designed to support increasing demand for mobile data as part of its $1.2 billion wireless network investment for 2012 -2013. Included in the strategy are plans to trial and introduce LTE-Advanced technology across the country later this year. The company is also adding 900MHz spectrum to its 4G network to improve signal strength and depth. [read more] >>



 

Movistar Chile has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy its LTE network in the capital, Santiago and several other cities.Under the deal NSN will deploy the Greater Siantago area, covering six million inhabitants, as well as other cities including Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. [read more] >>
