Newtec’s Ka-band VSAT technology will provide additional hubs in Betzdorf, Germany, where SES is headquartered and are designed to allow ISPs further access to the SES Broadband Services network.
“We are delighted to be moving ahead with our first operational Ka-band service on SES Broadband Services’ network,” said Serge Van Herck, CEO at Newtec.
“Newtec’s equipment is designed to ensure the best performance under any conditions, with a proven track record and at an affordable price point.”
The high-speed Newtec MDM2200 hubs are expected to facilitate a variety of applications on a single platform and are said to be able to support download speeds of 22Mbps.
The first orders of these terminals will reportedly be shipped to ISPs who distribute the SES broadband service and they are expected to benefit from the ability to offer voice, data and television services to areas with insufficient terrestrial broadband connectivity.
“Our ISPs can now also access our broadband service through Newtec Ka-band equipment,” added Patrick Biewer, managing director at SES Broadband Services.
Newtec and SES Broadband Services first partnered in 2007 and have since distributed over 120,000 VSAT terminals.
