Ciena will use its transport and optical bypass technology, GeoMesh, to help Reliance address the growing global demand for cloud-computing, video and other high-bandwidth services through the trans-Atlantic corridor which serves PoPs in Paris and New York.

Ciena’s solution is expected to make Reliance’s trans-Atlantic submarine network the first to be capable of supporting OTN-based client services from 10G to 100G.
“As terrestrial network adoption of OTN technolgy continues to increase, submarine networks interconnecting these land-based networks must support seamless handoff of these burgeoning new services,” said Ed McCormack, VP and general manager of international accounts and submarine systems at Ciena.
“Our GeoMesh solution was developed by leveraging our deep understanding of how terrestrial and submarine networks are designed to create a unique submarine solution that enables our customers to not only streamline and modernise their network, but better monetise it as well.”
The network upgrade will be administered by Ciena’s Management System and the company will also provide professional services for installation, integration, testing and support.
Telefónica partnered with Ciena for the deployment of its 100G network in Brazil in February this year.
