The FlexiGrid optical architechture is based on NSN’s platform, and was integrated successfully with a standards-based control system for optical network.
“We have successfully tested Nokia Siemens Networks’ FlexiGrid transport architecture in our labs and demonstrated that Generalised Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) based FlexiGrid networks are technically feasible,” said Juan Fernandez-Palacios, head of core network evolution at Telefónica I+D – global CTO unit.
“This is a key step to increase the efficiency and performance of our core transport networks.”
The trial was part of Telefónica’s Innovation Program focussing on network evolution and the results are hoped to respond to the increasing consumer demand for mobile, video, cloud computing and other high-bandwidth services.

The trial follows NSNs recent partnership with BH Telecom to upgrade its network and provide 3G services throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
