Ciena’s coherent optical technology, Wave Logic, is expected to enable CenturyLink a broader range of high-speed services ranging from 1G to 100G, as well as equivalent wavelengths to businesses in the US and other international cities.
“Given CenturyLink’s position as a leader in business connectivity, cloud infrastructure and data centre services, the deployment of our converged packet optical platform with 100G WaveLogic coherent optical processing, integrated packet switching and specialist services provides CenturyLink with a cost-optimised, programmable network,” said Philippe Morin, SVP of global field organisation at Ciena.
CenturyLink’s network spans over 50 locations in the US and Ciena’s platform will also offer integrated packet switching to enable enhanced Ethernet service delivery.
“Ciena’s converged packet and coherent optical technology allows us to provide speed and capacity improvements to our international and domestic regional networks, creating a true, end-to-end 100G network to deliver today’s bandwidth-intensive services and applications,” added Pieter Poll, SVP of national and international network planning, engineering and construction at CenturyLink.
The upgrade follows CenturyLink’s recent restructuring of its network services team in January this year, creating a single organisation managed by COO, Karen Puckett.
