TIS’s new PoP has been built to cater for customers requiring lower traffic and reduces cabling cost through an in-house connection.
It also adds to TI Sparkle’s global backbone, providing cost efficient access to its Global IP Backbone, Seabone.
Seasbone serves as the international services arm of Telecom Italia Group.
The Italian operator also hopes that Seabone will help to strengthen its regional positioning in Africa and Latin America.
A TIS spokesperson said: “With Sparkle Lan2Lan customers can extend Ethernet technology from a local environment to anywhere in the world using Sparkle IP backbone as a transport layer.
“Ethernet over MPLS transport enables point-to-point connections throughout the extensive Seabone footprint,” they added.
Seabone is reportedly ranked among the top ten transit backbones worldwide - third in Europe and first in the Mediterranean.
