The partnership offers both parties a monitoring solution for freight consignments, and it is thought to be an important development in providing solutions based on M2M communications.
Deutsche Telekom will provide the hardware and SIM cards for the service, and the software solution will evaluate data collected from arviem.
As part of the business model, companies can become more flexible by catering to individual customers, and allow for the solution to be booked for a fixed price per solution, so major investments are not required.
Deutsche Telekom confirmed its intentions to grow in the M2M space this year, and outlined the importance of the service in a statement released today.
“We rely on strong partners in order to be able to offer a wide range of solutions and services for different industries and application scenarios,” said Jürgen Hase, head of Deutsche Telekom’s M2M compliance centre.
The M2M solution relays data required via a mobile network, and software then processes the information and sends it to customers by email, for example.
Cargo monitoring is thought to be essential for companies aiming to remain competitive.
There are reportedly over 16 million containers a day around the world; with 30% of freight consignments arriving either damaged or late.
“When companies are monitoring their cargo globally in real time, they need seamless and reliable connections and services,” added Stefan Reidy, spokesman at arviem.
