Telefónica selects OnMobile for service upgrade

Telefónica has partnered with service provider, OnMobile, for the delivery of its value added services on the telco’s Movistar Emocion content service.

OnMobile’s technology is expected to enable easier access of content for Telefonica’s Spanish customers, and it is also hoped to generate new revenue streams for the company by supplying innovative ways to offer relevant content.

“With OnMobile they don’t just sell us a product and focus on a problem but instead they work with us to find a solution, for us this is the difference between a vendor and a true partner,” said Jorge Gutiérrez-Marcet, digital services business development manager at Telefónica.

“They understand how operators work and as a result there is a perfect synergy between them and Telefónica.”

The Emocion service, a portal designed to offer entertainment and leisure content, was launched in 2001 and is utilised by over 10% of Telefónica subscribers per year.

“Mobile consumers are becoming more and more hungry for rich, high-quality applications and content, but with increasing numbers of service providers now entering the market it is placing great strain on the traditional services,” said Sumit Sardana, senior director of sales at OnMobile.

“By working together with Telefónica, we have developed a solution that not only meets the needs of the operator and the content providers themselves but also the end customers.”

The partnership follows Telefónica’s agreement to share network infrastructure with Claro earlier this month, in a bid to improve 4G connectivity in Brazil.
