The company has approached an aggressive strategy for data centre expansion across Asia-Pacific, and the move provides the company with direct access to PoPs in the country.
Pacnet’s subsea cable network is also connected, and is intended to serve the company’s enterprise and carrier customers entering into China.
“The opening of this data centre is another significant milestone in Pacnet’s ability to provide network carriers and enterprises with the high-capacity data, network management and e-commerce needs to serve the online community in China,” said Jim Fagan, president of managed services at Pacnet."
Fagan commented on China’s increasingly tech-savvy population as driving the growth and need for data centres in the country.
Research group Frost & Sullivan estimates China’s data centre service market is growing at an annual rate of 26% per year, and could reach $3.2 billion by 2017.
Pacnet recently launched a new CDN PoP in the country and plans for a data centre in Tianjin with a 2000 rack space capacity.
Pacnet is the first international telecoms joint venture to receive licences in China to provide IP VPN services, and its network now spans 23 provinces and internet data centres in the country.

The new facility offers 14000sqm of carrier neutral data centre space, and is located in China’s new hub for manufacturing, logistics and transport, according to the company.
