Crowe, who announced his departure from Level 3 in March this year, was due to step down at the end of year, and Level 3 confirmed he will not stand for re-election to the company’s board.
Storey has served as COO at the company since 2008 and has 30 years’ experience in the industry.
Russell Reynolds, a search and assessment firm, assisted Level 3 with the appointment and found Storey was “the clear and unanimous choice of the board”.
“Today with our solid financial foundation, our expanding position in the enterprise market and the substantial progress we've made with integration, I believe our opportunities are greater than ever,” said Storey.
Storey paid tribute to the departing Crowe and thanked him for “his inspired leadership and strong belief in what Level 3 could become”.
