The network will be deployed by Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), with existing fibre-optic infrastructure, to create a service with a capacity 40 times its original capability.
“With this upgrade, we can transmit over a single fibre the capacity required for more than 800,000 broadband service customers to be connected simultaneously to the internet,” Marek Owczarski, technology development manager at Netia, told reporters.
“We strive to deliver the most advanced services to our customers – our preferred partner, NSN, is instrumental to that objective as it has the crucial understanding of our system’s requirements and roadmaps.”
Herbert Merz, head of optical networks at NSN, said that Netia has managed to expand its capacity in a cost-effective fashion, while still protecting its investment in the existing infrastructure.
“We are confident that the upgrade to ultra-fast data transmission allows Netia to ensure a superior mobile broadband customer experience,” he said.
In August last year, Netia signed a four year managed services agreement with Ericsson.
