NTT signs deal with Salesforce for UK data centre

NTT Communications’ European subsidiary has signed a deal with Salesforce to open a UK data centre.

NTT Europe will operate the data centre in Slough, just outside of London, to address Saleforce’s growing sales across Europe and it will represent the company’s sixth data centre worldwide.

California-based Salesforce had planned to build a European data centre as far back as 2010 but decided to delay the project.

The UK government’s shift in attitude towards cloud paved the way for a UK data centre and the company said NTT Europe was an obvious partner for the project.

“We looked at several vendors. We looked at it purely from the point of view of who was the best in Europe,” said Steve Garnett, chairman of Salesforce in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Damian Skendrovic, NTT Europe’s vice president of cloud services, added: “I think one of the things that stood out was our commitment to delivering [services with] 100% renewable energy.”

Garnett said the project was costing in the “tens of millions of dollars”.
