The move will help enable Limelight to better serve its customers, which are said to benefit from a faster and richer internet experience in the region.
“We are pleased that our wide delivery network can continue to deliver more enhanced digital experience across the web, mobile devices, social and large screen channels. Our solutions are a combination of integrated cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) applications with large network,” said Limelight’s founder and board member Nathan Raciborski.
For Etisalat, the agreement adds to the growing number of members in its Smarthub community, as it aims to become the largest capacity, content, internet and data hub in the Middle East.
“Smarthub is now the leading regional telecommunications service hub, providing regional connectivity and advanced services for our partners,” said Ali Amiri, EVP of carrier and wholesale services, Etisalat.
In a separate move, Etisalat has also joined a consortium of operators for the construction of the Bay of Bengal (BBG) subsea cable system, which will link the Middle East, South East Asia and South Asia.
Other operators involved in the cable include Telekom Malaysia Berhad (Malaysia), Vodafone Group (UK), Omantel (Oman), Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (India) and Dialog Axiata (Sri Lanka).
The 8,000km cable will be designed with 100G technology and is expected to carry commercial traffic by the end of 2014.
“We are delighted to be a part of this consortium that will enhance our already robust intercontinental capacity to support our customers growing high speed data requirements.” added Amiri.
