Vodafone pens agreement with Deutsche Telekom in Germany

Vodafone Germany has today announced it has signed a network access agreement with Deutsche Telekom to offer high-speed fixed-line broadband and IPTV services across Germany.

The operator penned the agreement with DT in an effort to enhance its portfolio of high-speed services.

Vodafone’s German arm will at first use DT’s VDSL IP-based network, which is said to offer customers connection speeds of up to 50Mbps and is set to double once DT has deployed vectoring technology.

The operator will also use the IP-based network to offer users its own on-demand and broadcast IPTV services.

As part of the second phase of the agreement, Vodafone Germany will be able to use DT’s more advanced Ethernet-based network from 2016. The company said it will allow a greater level of control over the design and delivery of its services to consumer and enterprise companies.

“Our agreement with Deutsche Telekom will greatly enhance our ability to offer our German customers a range of competitive, high-speed broadband and TV services,” said Vodafone Group chief executive for northern and central Europe, Philipp Humm.

Humm also said the deal is in line with the company’s broader European strategy.

The deal is, however, dependent on receiving approval from German regulators, the Federal Network Agency.
