Cloud Acceleration Tips for 2013

In today’s digital landscape, users expect content to be delivered at a rapid pace on a local and global scale. This creates a challenge for content delivery network providers to overcome any existing latency issues. Slow load times can cause users to instantly click away from a website’s content, resulting in a potential loss of revenue.

In today’s digital landscape, users expect content to be delivered at a rapid pace on a local and global scale. This creates a challenge for content delivery network providers to overcome any existing latency issues. Slow load times can cause users to instantly click away from a website’s content, resulting in a potential loss of revenue.

With users having the ability to instantly connect to websites across the globe to shop, communicate, control finances and more, content delivery networks have the responsibility to provide effective and secured cloud-based global content delivery solutions. In this post, we’ll highlight a few cloud acceleration trends and tips for 2013 to assist with your content delivery efforts.

Tap into APAC cloud opportunities

The opportunity for cloud hosting in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has developed significantly of late. For this reason, tapping into the potential goldmine awaiting content delivery providers in APAC should become a priority for content delivery networks this year. Recent survey findings from “The Asian State of the Cloud 2012” survey conducted by Asia Cloud Forum highlight some of the existing opportunities.

The data shows enterprise hybrid cloud (38.3%) and private cloud (35%) shared similar rates of adoption in Asia. In fact, the majority of respondents (63%) want cloud providers to enhance flexibility and scalability of IT resources, followed by controlling IT costs (47%).

Providing cloud solutions for Asian customers will enhance their Internet experience while reducing IT costs, a quality solution and business plan that should allow for Asian cloud acceleration growth in 2013.

Prove your cloud is safe for those security concerned

A recent ZDNet article shows 40% of survey respondents cited security as a main concern when using cloud-based storage. Most cloud content delivery networks are now considered secure; the next step is to prove this to security-concerned companies. Creating private PoPs across the globe, rather than a shared public Internet infrastructure, will assist in assuaging the fears of those who are concerned about security.

Create and offer hybrid cloud technology

Flexibility is a good thing to have on your side when offering a product. For global content cloud acceleration to take off, hybrid cloud technology needs to be in place. This means providers need to incorporate in solutions storage and accessibility that use both local and off-site resources.

Mobile CDN technology

With the expansion and development of smartphones and mobile devices, the need to speed up the mobile web has become a priority. Mobile CDN technology significantly reduces mobile data traffic, which is growing exponentially by the diffusion of smartphones.

At the same time, mobile CDN enhances the mobile user experience with Radio Access Network (RAN) acceleration, which compresses text to reduce mobile data traffic without changing content; video pacing, which reduces excessive progressive video downloading; and TCP acceleration, which is delicately tuned to fit the mobile operator’s network environment.

The year 2013 should be filled with opportunity for those looking to accelerate cloud content. For content delivery networks,  the Asian-Pacific region should become a priority, as well as security measures, hybrid cloud technology and mobile CDN technology.
