The Ericsson Device Connection Platform is designed to provide DiGi with all necessary requirements to deploy, manage and monetise M2M devices.
DiGi already delivers M2M services to customers in a number of industry verticals, and the company hopes the partnership with Ericsson to allow its enterprise customers to monitor their devices anytime, anywhere.
“This strategic development will allow us to strengthen our M2M offerings to our growing customer base, and it will ready our customers for new business strategies that rely on a broad spectrum of devices, as data services become more mature in Malaysia,” said Akash Das, head of M2M (strategy) at DiGi Telecommunications.
Further benefits of the Ericsson platform are said to include the ability to increase revenue and cut operational costs for DiGi, as well as enable easy integration into the company’s existing systems.
Ericsson is expected to use its local and global technological expertise to speed up DiGi’s time-to-market for M2M, as well as generating business growth for the Malaysian operator.
“As DiGi's M2M partner, we will support its strategy of growing to become one of Malaysia's leading operators in the M2M-services arena,” said Todd Ashton, president of Ericsson Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
“This partnership is in line with Ericsson's vision of the Networked Society where any device that benefits from a connection is connected, making people's lives and businesses better and more efficient.”
Ashton added that the company hopes there will be more than 50 billion connected devices around the world by 2020, mainly using M2M connectivity.
Ericsson has partnered with a number of operators worldwide for its M2M solution, including XL earlier this year, and TeliaSonera in November last year.
