Verizon deploys 100GE on IP network

Verizon has today announced the deployment of its 100GE technology to the edge routers of its Private IP network.

The 100GE technology is designed to deliver faster speeds and higher bandwidth capabilities for enterprise customers looking to enhance their global business infrastructures.

The deployment is hoped to address this demand for higher bandwidth as customers are increasingly moving their applications and data to the cloud.

“The increase in demand for cloud and data centre connectivity is driving the decision to expand our service offering to higher speeds in order to meet the bandwidth needs of our customers by providing reliable, high-performance and secure services,” said Ihab Tarazi, VP of product technology at Verizon.

“Verizon is a leader in high-bandwidth technology, and extending 100GE to the edge is the next natural step for us.”

In a statement, the company said it would implement the technology on the same European and US routes where long-haul 100G is deployed.

Verizon is also reportedly offering standardised 1GE and 10GE access for its Private IP network to support customer bandwidth requirements.

“Our customers are transforming the way they access information and increasingly are looking to quickly turn their big data into information that offers real business advantages,” said Rich Montgomery, group VP for Europe, the Middle East and Asia at Verizon.

“Extending 100GE to the edge gives customers the connectivity they need to run their businesses most effectively while staying competitive in the global market.”

Earlier this month, Verizon announced it had partnered with Alcatel-Lucent to deploy small cells into its 4G network.
