As part of a second phase of expansion, the facility has been extended by 1,295 square metres, providing an additional 350 racks and 3MW of power.
The company’s VP and CEO of Australia and New Zealand, Nigel Stitt, said the data centre’s location in Sydney’s Central-Business-District is an “ideal choice for organisations making a technology move into using services through a cloud platform”.
"For those companies viewing Asia as an opportunity for business expansion, our Sydney data centre offers a gateway for data and cloud computing resources through our ability to interlink our clients though to our other 27 centres in the region, including China," he added.
The move forms part of Pacnet’s wider strategy to capitalise on the rapid growth in demand for network, data centre and CDN services in Asia.
Earlier this year, the company opened a Tier 3 data centre in Chongqing, China in its latest bid to enhance the coverage of its network in the country. It also revealed plans to invest $90 million to build a Tier 3 data centre in Singapore.
