The company said it would roll out a 3G data network, with a view to connecting 90% of the Myanmar population in two years, if it wins one of the two licences being tendered.
Jeremy Sell, chief strategy officer at Ooredeoo, told reporters the company would build over 10,000 base stations in the country, focussing initially on urban areas and town centres.
According to Sell, a win at the auction could also see Ooredoo take a 35% share of Myanmar’s mobile phone market, and the country’s penetration rate could reach 140%.
Myanmar’s spectrum licences have attracted global attention in previous months and Sell, like many others, has cited Myanmar as one of the last exciting Greenfield locations.
MTN and Bharti Airtel are among the interested parties in the licences, and last week, Vodafone and China Mobile revoked their offers for the licences.
