TOT to implement fibre-optic upgrade

Thai telco TOT will reportedly spend 2.6 billion baht on a fibre-optic upgrade of its fixed-line network.

The upgrade is designed to provide 849, 183 homes and offices in the country with faster and more efficient connectivity.

Udom Puasakul, chairman at the company, yesterday told reporters that the company would finance the project by its own cash flow.

TOT is expected to establish 5,320 3G base stations by August this year.

The deal is still subject to approval from the country’s Information and Communications Technology Ministry, the National Economic and Social Development Board and the cabinet.

The upgrade follows reports earlier this year that TOT was to implement 3G services in the country.
