Lars Nyberg, TeliaSonera’s former CEO, resigned in February this year amid allegations over corruption in Uzbekistan, and the company has since been headed by its CFO Per-Arne Blomquist.
Dennelind has a strong background in emerging markets, which is expected to boost TeliaSonera’s strategy of growing its operations in central Asia and eastern Europe.
“Dennelind brings with him almost 20 years of experience from the telecommunications industry and has during his time, most recently at Vodacom, proven that he can successfully lead organisations in significant change processes within an international environment,” said Marie Ehrling, chairman at TeliaSonera.
Blomquist is expected to return to his post as CFO as a result of the appointment, and Dennelind said he is looking forward to developing the company.
“TeliaSonera is today one of Europe’s leading telecom operators with a large international presence and I look forward to leading the company during the next phase of development,” he said.
Dennelind’s role will officially start on September 1 2013, but he will reportedly be available to the company as of July 1 2013.
