The move will enable its customers to access a fully interoperable rich communication service and enable the company to give conumsers access to a range of services while making calls.
Orange customers can access joyn via an app available on the latest smartphones, and the service is seen as bridging the gap between operators and OTT providers.
The GSMA joyn initiative, which is now live in nine countries, including Spain, Germany and the US, is supported by 14 operators including Orange, Vodafone, Movistar and MetroPCS.
“The GSMA is delighted with this announcement that joyn services will now be available to Orange customers in France,” said Graham Trickey, senior projects director at the GSMA. “They will join a growing community of mobile phone users who are already enjoying the easy access, rich services that joyn offers.”
A further 27 operators in 17 countries have committed to launching the services in the near future, and it is expected that mobile operators will take in a cumulative $1.6 billion from RCS fees between 2012 to 2016, according to a range of research companies.
