KPN partnered with Huawei for the trial of an OTN-based 400G network, spanning 540km from Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Dusseldorf, Germany.
“[The partnership] helps us design products suitable to customer needs, and clarify the evolving trend of the next generation transport network,” Jack Wang, president of the Huawei Transport Network Product Line.
KPN reportedly claims that the successful trial means 400G is almost ready to move out of the laboratory.
Further tests, for onboard DSP functionality, are planned and success here could provide a welcome boost for KPN which has reported heavy debts and in April this year, set parameters for its €3 billion rights issue.
