The telecommunications and media firm partnered with Colombian state-owned telco Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) for the licence from Colombia Móvil (Tigo Colombia).
Tigo Colombia is expected to contribute $89 million as its 50% share of the costs associated with the licence.
“Millicom welcomes the announcement that our joint bid with our partner ETB was successful,” the company said in a statement today.
“This will allow us to continue offering even more innovation and choice to consumers in Colombia in the years to come. We look forward to beginning the work on 4G and creating a service that will transform lives and the Colombian economy even more.”
Millicom International is among the, now 11, shortlisted bidders for two mobile licences in Myanmar, the government of which yesterday reported delays to the procedure.
