Despite not making the shortlist for a licence earlier this year, Telkom Indonesia is now expected to work alongside the country’s government to manage Myanmar’s international connectivity.
“The trust given by the government of Myanmar is the result of the hard work Telkom has carried out in Myanmar,” said Arief Yahya, managing director of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia.
“This will be an opportunity to show that Telkom can be aligned with other international operators."
Yahya said that the management tender reiterates Telkom Indonesia’s commitment to growing its business in the emerging Myanmar market, and confirmed that the company has opened a representative office in the country.
Telenor and Ooredoo were the successful bidders in Myanmar's auction in June this year, and Capacity will hold its first conference dedicated to Myanmar's market, in Nay Pyi Taw from 10-11 September this year.
