The company will launch the services in partnership with Canadian operator Rogers Communications and Swisscom, with the Asian operator significantly stepping up its interests in international markets.
SK’s LTE service is expected to enable users to facilitate seamless roaming in all areas of Switzerland, excluding mountainous regions, and major Canadian cities including Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton.
“Since launching the world’s first LTE international roaming in Hong Kong, SK Telecom has continued to make efforts to expand its LTE roaming coverage to allow customers to enjoy seamless LTE service while travelling overseas,” said Kim Young-sup, SVP and head of collaboration marketing office of SK Telecom.
“SK Telecom is also in talks with mobile carriers in Japan, China and the U.S. to launch LTE international roaming in those countries.”
The company hopes these additions to its LTE footprint to allow for further growth in the segment, particularly across Europe and the Americas.
In June this year SK Telecom announced the launch of what it claimed to be the world’s first LTE-Advanced network.
