The deal is designed to incorporate the interconnection of Ethernet, IP VPN, wavelength and IPT services to increase the companies’ joint presence in Europe, as well as maximise large amounts of traffic.
The network connection will be established in Frankfurt, with a back-up in Vienna, and will connect four internet exchanges in London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Frankfurt.

Amon said that the network will not only offer technological excellence, but also extensive local know-how, with Telekom Austria’s knowledge of CEE, and KPN’s experience in Western Europe being fully exploited.
173 PoPs in 35 countries across Europe and North America are expected to be covered by the backbone, and the data services will be available for international wholesale carriers and large businesses.

“It enables both companies to make more efficient use of our networks, which will benefit our customers.”
The agreement follows discussions of a possible synergy between the two companies in November last year due to their mutual majority shareholder, América Móvil's Carlos Slim.
