Ericsson will be the sole supplier for Batelco’s LTE expansion plans, which the Bahraini operator hopes will deliver enhanced mobile broadband services to subscribers.
Batelco expects its customers to benefit from download speeds of up to 150Mbps and improved cloud and multimedia services following the upgrade.
“We are confident that with Ericsson's innovative technology, we will provide the best user experience for our subscribers," said Rashid Abdulla, CEO at Batelco.
Ericsson will deploy LTE base stations into new areas in Bahrain and upgrade Batelco’s Evolved Pack Core network.
The vendor will also implement LTE roaming support through its Diameter Signaling Controller, designed to manage roaming relations, improve network reliability and enhance security.
“Batelco continues to expand its network for exponential data growth, and we have once again been trusted to help them deliver a superior mobile-broadband experience to their subscribers," said Anders Lindblad, president of the Middle East region at Ericsson.
Batelco was in discussions with Reliance Communications over the sale of its subsidiary Reliance Globalcom earlier this year, but in April, talks between the two companies were said to have fallen through.
