South Africa’s MFN delivers managed-bandwidth services from 2Mbp to 1Gbps between customer and service provider and owns an open-access metro Ethernet network.
MFN is leveraging Ciena’s packet networking solutions to provide more bandwidth at a lower cost.
“Our open-class Metro Ethernet network provides enterprises with carrier-class broadband connectivity, using the service provider of their choice,” said Malcolm Kirby, CEO at Metrofibre Networx.
“With Ciena’s packet networking solutions, we are able to increase the scalability and reliability of our network, allowing our service provider customers to provide high-performance Ethernet services to business customers.”
The packet solutions are also expected to allow for the implementation of next-generation Ethernet services, as well as a future upgrade to 100G.
Nick Walden, regional MD of EMEA operations at Ciena, said: “Using Ciena’s packet networking solutions... Metrofibre’s network can not only scale to meet the growing needs of its current customers, but also quickly expand to provide high-speed broadband to new markets in South Africa.”
Ciena expanded its packet network solutions portfolio earlier this month to include several solutions for the acceleration of 100GbE services.
