NSN is the sole supplier to Vodacom Tanzania and its single RAN (radio access network) is expected to deliver greater call quality and faster data services to Vodacom Tanzania customers.
Rene Meza, MD at Vodacom Tanzania, said that the upgrade was part of the company’s strategy to be a pioneer in delivering the best-possible service to customers.
“To achieve this, we selected NSN, as it has proven capabilities in the domain,” Meza said.
“NSN’s radio network equipment and services have ensured a higher performance network, so that we can maintain our competitive edge in Tanzania.”
Vodacom Tanzania has also been able to improve its network capacity as a result of the upgrade, as well as benefitting from lower costs.
“Our base station improves network capacity and throughput for enhanced voice call and mobile broadband experience,” said Pete Beadle, customer team head of Vodacom Tanzania at NSN.
“In addition, it reduces capital and operating costs for Vodacom Tanzania, as the base station is extremely compact – requiring minimal floor space – and consumes 70% less energy than before.”
Earlier this year, Vodacom Tanzania launched an LTE trial in Dar es Salaam through its partnership with NSN.
