The trial was carried out at Efixo, one of SFR’s R&D labs, and the company said it achieved download speeds of 174Mbps on the 800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum bands.
SFR launched its own LTE network in Paris in September this year and the company expects the eventual incorporation of LTE-A into its network, to enable customers to benefit from significantly increased capacity.
SFR appears to be the first European operator entering into the LTE-A field, following a number of trials carried out across Asia by KT in South Korea and Smart Communications in the Philippines.
SK Telecom still stands as the only known operator claiming to have an operational LTE-A network.
