The French vendor announced today that it will deploy small cell base stations for G-Mobile in densely populated areas of the city, in a bid to increase the service provider’s 3G network coverage.
BasBish. D, CEO at G-Mobile, said: “G-Mobile is determined to be a national leader in mobile broadband communications and to offer our subscribers better coverage in areas where they want it while also reducing our operating costs for that increased coverage, we choose Alcatel-Lucent’s small cells.”
Alcatel-Lucent’s technology is designed to be inconspicuously placed in internal and external environments and is a low-cost solution to increasing 3G coverage compared to macro cells, repeaters or distributed antenna systems (DAS).
Daniel Rosie, country senior officer of Mongolia at Alcatel-Lucent, said: “This small cell solution is the very first of its kind in the Mongolian telecom sector. By adding capacity and coverage exactly where it is needed Alcatel-Lucent’s small cell technology has opened up the possibilities for expanding our business relationship with G-Mobile.”
The initial deployment will be followed by an expansion of the mobile network in 2014 to cover the greater Ulaanbaatar area and other major Mongolian cities.
