Its new headquarters and region office will be located in Addlestone, UK, and adds to the company’s recently opened offices in Israel, Germany and Belgium, in addition to strengthening its management team in the region.
With growing traction in Akamai’s EMEA business, the company has more than doubled its EMEA employee number in the last 18 months, including an increase of 150% in personnel since the beginning of 2012.
Akamai’s SVP & general manager EMEA Mark Vargo said the company was focusing on four key technology trends – mobility, media, cloud and security, which “have become imperatives for today’s entertainment and corporate businesses”.
He added: “These are integral to the increasing business opportunities that we’re seeing in the market and our expansion in the region is with the express purpose of capturing these opportunities and getting closer to our customers and partners here.”
Akamai claims it has developed a suite of solutions to help businesses meet the challenges of security, performance and latency and reach users globally, in addition to providing online video, operating an e-commerce website or global applications over the web.
Cloud-based services are set to expand rapidly in Europe, with research firm Gartner predicting that the worldwide market for public cloud services is expected to grow 18% to $131 billion.
Eastern Europe is one of the emerging markets with the highest growth rates in the world, according to Gartner, but Western Europe remains the second-largest region in cloud services behind North America, accounting for 21% of all new spending on cloud between 2013 and 2017.
